Walter J. Ripple, 96, Houghton Lake, died July 22, 2021, at home.

Cremation has taken place, and at his request, no funeral service will be held. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel, handled the arrangements

He was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Hamtramck, to Michael and Mary (Eugene) Ripple. He and Leah Hunt were united in marriage Jan. 25, 1947, in Birmingham. His wife predeceased him Jan. 1, 2016.

Mr. Ripple served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater. He retired from Detroit Edison Co. in 1980. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Houghton Lake.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon of Prudenville; son, Paul (Lori) of Boiling Springs, SC; grandson, Christopher (Michell); great-granddaughter, Eliza of Simpsonville, SC; granddaughter, Ashley of Taylors, SC

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence; and wife, Leah.
