Kristaps Porzingis went from a non-contender in the East (the Knicks) to a non-contender in the West (the Mavericks) on Thursday afternoon, shaking up the rosters of two lottery teams. So, with the trade, there isn’t any immediate direct effect on the Warriors or anyone else intent on dethroning them this June.

But every NBA move these days is smartly viewed from a much wider lens and, if you open up the peripherals, the Warriors are very much a part of what could become the collateral damage of this trade season’s first blockbuster. One of the potential side effects could benefit them, another certainly wouldn’t.
