Ripple isn’t contented with just making a difference in the cryptocurrency world, they are now making a difference in the life of the needy.
Madonna is partnering with Ripple as they aim to raise funds to assist orphans in Malawi via Raising Malawi, a charity that Madonna founded over a decade ago.
The month-long initiative is part of Madonna’s plans for her 60th birthday which will fall on 16th August. She believes Ripple will help her achieve her goal of helping HIV/AIDS orphans in the African country.
The fundraising started on July 30 and will run until August 31, with Ripple looking to match all the public donations that will be made in support of Madonna’s cause.
“Partner with us to sponsor children thru @raisingmalawi and help transform their futures. https://ripple.com/insights/ripple-and-raising-malawi-launch-campaign-to-sponsor-children-in-need/ …”
Children in Need to Benefit from the Fundraising Campaign
Madonna revealed that the funds raised will specifically benefit the work of the nonprofit at the Home of Hope orphanage in Malawi.
At the moment, over $28,000 has been raised through her Facebook page.
Ripple, in its statement, noted that the African country has roughly a million children who have been orphaned following the death of their parents from HIV/AIDS-related complications.
Ripple’s senior vice president of business operations, Eric van Miltenburg stated: “We’re honored to be a part of Raising Malawi’s amazing work with some of the world’s most underserved children.”
Ripple, however, didn’t mention if the donations would be matched in XRP or USD.
Miltenburg, while explaining further, stated that Ripple knew about Raising Malawi from its investors at Sound Ventures, a tech investment fund founded by Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary.
Ripple Involved In Other Philanthropic Activities
Back in May this year, Ripple partnered with Ripple to raise US$4 million in XRP to the Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund.
This is a nonprofit headed by Comedian Ellen DeGeneres with the aim of supporting global conservation efforts for endangered species.
Ripple and its executives also made a donation worth $29 million in XRP to support public schools in the United States earlier this year.
This donation was made via, DonorsChoose.org, with the organization revealing afterward that Ripple’s donation was its biggest since it was created two decades ago.
DonorsChoose tweeted “We can’t believe that just happened. With the largest single donation in our history, @Ripple just funded EVERY SINGLE CLASSROOM PROJECT on our site. Happy #BestSchoolDay! […]”
The donation made by Ripple and its execs was used in providing public schools with supplies books, field trips, technology as well as other resources required for learning, something that teachers from over 28,000 public schools have been yearning for.
Charles Best, Founder of DonorsChoose in a statement said “We are awestruck by the generosity of the Ripple team. Their gift will provide learning materials and experiences to more than a million students, overwhelmingly in low-income communities.”
